CRANKSHAFT - The stock 550 crankshaft is a reasonably well built unit. Unfortunately, many 550's will still have the original crankshaft in the engine. For a later model '93 machine that's not a problem, however there are many 550's with one or two hard seasons on the stock crank.
So my buddy picked up a couple JS550 hulls and an engine yesterday. The engine will run but is backfiring through the carb. The pipe has a crack in it that is letting water out. Can the lack of back pressure from the pipe cause that or should we look elsewhere? Air leak on the intake side maybe?

The manual states to insert them with the on the outside, but I'm not using OEM seals and the differs from the inside on the left seal to the outside on the right seal and I dont have the old OEM ones to compare to anymore.. Lastly, how deep should the seals be inserted?

Posted November 3, 2008. I used some pro-circuit suspension seal grease on my banshee crank seals and it seemed to work good. I lost the grease and only have a automotive grease for like bearings, linkages etc and was wondering if you have to have a certain grease....i sure dont want to toast the new seals on the sled. thanks. Crank seals on the drive side or primary side are meant to retain the oil level in the chain case. The seal is installed with the spring facing out toward the primary case. Seals in the timing cover are retaining oil pressure in the cover. An example of this is the timing side crank oil feed seal. The points seal is meant to keep oil away from ...
Clean the surface where the old seal was installed. Examine the new seal and notice the direction of the outer lip. The bevel of the lip fits inward. The sloped part of the lip faces outward. When oil pressure presses against the inner bevel, the lip of the seal pushes out. If the slope faced inwards, the oil would flow out without any resistance.

The Jet Ski engine cannot start if the interlock switch is in the "left" position. Next, check if the fuel valve is set to "on" before you try starting the Jet Ski. Pull it all the way out and press the start button. If the level of the fuel is low, the Jet Ski can start but it might stop soon or it will not be able to make turns.

If you have an 06 or later, it is no big deal using an 06 or later crank seal as your old seal looks like the new one your installing. BUT, if your "updating" your seal with the 06+ and your bike is an 02-05? the seal looks much different. THE COPPER SIDE (see photo above) does faces OUT.

1993 rm125 crank seal orientation. Hi Guys, I just put a replated cylinder and new piston on my dad's 1993 rm125. First start up revealed a large amount of smoke and bogging, leading me to believe the bike is sucking transmission oil into the combustion chamber. I am just trying to confirm the orientation of the right-side crank seal.
