The lower lithological unit at sites GC352, GC362, GC365, GC366 and GC368 comprises 0.45–2.1 m thick, terrigenous, olive grey to dark brown, massive gravelly diamictons, which we had originally described as gravelly sandy muds (Hillenbrand et al., 2009), and structureless to slightly stratified muddy diamictons with low to medium shear strength values (≤12 kPa; Fig. 2).
